讀書好 Books4You was the one and only reading culture magazine in town, featuring renowned authors' interviews, cultural stories, columns by cultural KOL, book reviews, cultural events & everything about books & beyond.
Books offers the best imaginations, perspectives and knowledges; to promote reading culture and encourage readers to rediscover the fun of reading, I visualized the magazine to look vivid and hipster, yet in the right balance of the 'intellectual' clean look for good readability for textual heavy editorials. In order to variate the similarity images of book covers, creative photos were shot to create more interesting story openers. The book square & rectangular shapes were the key visual elements in designing all the page layouts, it was also an extension from the masthead logo developed from the idea of bookshelf & books designed by Freeman Lau.
After trial and review from the first few issues, we then established the cover style on having a minimal image on a pop colour block background for the strongest visual impact. The iconic cover style maintain to its #110 final print issue until the magazine migrated to digital.
It was a very special journey to give birth to this magazine, from pitching sponsorship to promotions, it was considered a successful launch as we doubled the print circulation and frequent it to monthly from bi-monthly publishing.
My first magazine design at work forever taking an important place in my heart.
